BBBS Beyond School Walls

SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 | PORTLAND, OR

In January, we created ACME Cares to maximum our impact in our local community!

ACME Cares is the community outreach extension of ACME, and our mission is to support the youth of our community by coming alongside Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest (BBBS) as an active partner in order to aid in growing their impact and supporting their mission. We had big plans for 2019 to aid in supporting their efforts, and that we did! This year we’ve been able to be a part of some significant events, including The Big Hero Gala, Graduation, and Rappel for a Reason.

The most recent event, Rappel for a Reason, was an absolute blast as we got to watch our President, Dan Carter, rappel down a 24-story building in downtown Portland. The goal was to reach $1500 and we are happy to report that we not only met our goal, but we exceeded it! We want to extend our sincerest gratitude to those that donated. Those donations helped to secure our spot and ensured that one child is taken off of the BBBS waitlist and matched with a caring and supportive mentor. The additional funds raise will go toward another child being taken off the waitlist, how exciting!

So, what’s next for ACME Cares? We are excited to announce that at the end of October we will be kicking off the Beyond School Walls program at ACME! Beyond School Walls is a “mentoring program through BBBS that connects youth to opportunities to access and learn about the corporate world while cultivating a culture of employee engagement that has a lasting impact in the lives of both the children and adult volunteers.” Twice per month, ten students from Harvey Scott Elementary will come to ACME to meet with ten of our awesome team members and engage in curriculum facilitated by BBBS staff. We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this program and will definitely share more soon!
